Project Description
This combined continuous structure of a library and museum is located on the slopes of Lake Biwa, near Takashima, in Japan. The site is oriented in such a way that one can have a view of the horizon from all over the site. The main idea to select a sloped site is because the building is intended to be integrated with the surrounding woods, which are filled with Nikko fir and cedar trees.
The museum includes an Art gallery, Exhibition Hall, Sculpture Gardens and Hall of Illusions (maze hall). On the other end, the library includes a large Foyer, Circular reading area, Suspended reading area, and a Reference section. Both areas are connected by a lengthy walkway covered by a large concrete wall to showcase its brutalist nature.
