‘Fashion’, as a way of dressing, and dress-making, is effectively a mode of cultural introspection for a society. It is then, also a form of individuality and self-expression. Thus responding to the present and future needs of society, contemporary fashion trends are continually moulded, adopted and adapted by people. To be able to imbibe this sensitivity of social and cultural identities in terms of fashion, designers need to be intrinsically in touch with the ethos of the people around them. To understand how people carry themselves, how they see their self-reflections, and how they set their aspirations, fashion designers should have the possibility of using live cultural exchanges of people as an inspiration for design
The competition seeks to create a school of fashion designing that inherently comprises of an interactive public front, opening up possibilities of an exchange between designers and the people. To be able to forge connections with the ethos of the location, the school of fashion is imagined, not as an introverted institute, but in a constant dialogue with genesis of fashion itself; that is, the life and culture of people.
